What to Do If You Find a Snake in Your House

Texas is home to four groups of venomous snakes — rattlesnakes, copperheads, cottonmouths and coral snakes — as well as dozens of harmless species. If one is inside your home, follow these steps.
Immediately
- Keep people and pets out of the room and close the door.
- Do not try to catch, kill or corner it. Most bites happen during handling.
- Note where it went — behind an appliance, under furniture.

Why snakes come inside
