How to Get Rid of German Cockroaches for Good
By Permian Basin Pest Control · Updated 2026-09-17
German cockroaches are the most common roach we treat in Texas kitchens, and the hardest to eliminate with store-bought products. One female can produce over 300 offspring in her lifetime, and a colony can double in a month.
Why sprays fail
Repellent sprays scatter roaches deeper into walls and appliances, spreading the infestation. They also kill only the roaches you hit, not the egg cases (oothecae) waiting to hatch.
What actually works
- Sanitation first. Roaches need water more than food. Fix drips, dry sinks nightly, empty pet bowls.
- Gel baits placed in cracks, hinges and under appliances. Roaches carry bait back to the harborage and poison the colony.
- Insect growth regulators that stop nymphs from maturing and reproducing.
- Follow-up in 2–3 weeks to catch the hatch from surviving egg cases.
When to call a professional
If you see roaches during the day, find them in more than one room, or live in an apartment where they can migrate from neighbors, it is time for professional cockroach control. Our exterminator service treats the whole unit, and commercial pest control programs keep restaurant kitchens clear between health inspections.
